A Code of Practice

A 'code of practice' takes the form of guidance and recommendations. It is important to understand that this is not a 'specification' in that it does not put forward 'requirements'.


What is BS25999?

The BS25999 standard consists of two documents: part 1 and part 2.

PART1
The first part is the'code of practice':


In the words of the standard itself, it is intended to provide a system based on good practice for business continuity management, serving as a single reference point for most business continuity situations. It is designed to apply regardless of size of company/organization, or sector.

PART2
The second part is the 'specification'. This details the requirements of a formal management system for BCM, against which certification may be sought.
